Three Natural Facial Skincare Products You Can Make With Peppermint Essential Oil

Are you one of the many people who suffer from Multiple Chemical Sensitivity and cannot use most conventional skincare products? Maybe you're just trying to stay away from heavily scented and processed products in an effort to improve your health. Luckily, you can make natural versions of facial skincare products at home, using safe ingredients. The following recipes will show you how to make a "set" of peppermint scented skincare products: facial scrub, moisturizer, and toner. You'll love the way your skin feels after using these wholesome, refreshing products.

Facial Scrub

This scrub is gentle on your face. It exfoliates mildly while also removing traces of dirt and oil. The peppermint essential oil  gives the scrub a cooling effect, which is very refreshing in the summer. Castile soap is a natural soap made from olive oil; it can be found in most health food stores.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup unscented, liquid castile soap
  • 2 tablespoons finely ground sea salt
  • 10 drops of peppermint essential oil

Directions:

Mix the three ingredients together and pour them into a pump bottle that you've saved from some old hand soap or face wash. You'll want to shake the container before each use to re-suspend the salt in the solution. This face wash will store for up to 6 months. If you end up keeping it longer than 6 months, some of the peppermint scent may dissipate. You can refresh it by adding a 2 - 3 more drops of peppermint oil. Use the scrub just as you would a commercial face wash.

Coconut Oil and Peppermint Moisturizer

Using coconut oil as a facial moisturizer has become rather popular, but this recipe takes it to the next level by also harnessing the healing properties of shea butter, which is high in phytonutrients that will improve the appearance of your skin. She butter can be found at most natural health stores. If you cannot find liquid vitamin E, purchase vitamin E capsules and squeeze out the contents of 1 - 2 gel capsules.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup shea butter
  • 3 drops of peppermint essential oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon liquid vitamin E

Directions:

Place the shea butter and coconut butter in the microwave, and microwave them for 10 seconds to soften. Add the other ingredients to the mixing bowl and stir well to combine them. Store the mixture in a jar. To use the moisturizer, apply a pea-sized dab to your clean face and massage it in well. Use the mixture within 3 months.

Refreshing Peppermint Toner

This cooling toner is perfect for removing the final lingering impurities after you wash your face. Make sure you use high quality apple cider vinegar from the health food store, not the overly processed variety usually seen on grocery store shelves.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup distilled water
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 30 drops peppermint essential oil

Directions:

Combine the ingredients in a small spray bottle; give it a gentle shake. To use your toner, simply spritz a little on a clean, dry face. Then wipe the toner away with cotton or a soft cloth. This toner is perfect for a little pick-me-up after a day in the summer heat, too! It will stay fresh for up to 6 months.

Peppermint essential oil is a key ingredient in these three recipes. To ensure the recipes come out as intended, make sure you're using real peppermint essential oil from a reputable company. Artificially scented peppermint extract will not work the same way. Good quality peppermint essential oil not only makes these beauty products smell lovely, but it also offers a number of health benefits, including relief of inflammation and calming of itchiness.
